Why is Lisa Running?
This is an exciting time for Salt Lake City, in general, and for District 7, in particular. After years of dormancy, Sugar House and the surrounding areas are now beehives of activity. Now that we are in a position to develop key areas of District 7, I want to ensure that it is done with thoughtful planning. We have some challenges that need to be addressed: crime is at the top of that list. We need a police precinct on the east bench. We have an ongoing problem with panhandling and vagrancy. Graffiti is found in every neighborhood. We need improved bus routes that offer reasonable options for our residents. Once the streetcar line in Sugar House is complete, we have a perfect lab to see if streetcars are a viable option worth pursuing.
My pragmatic approach to finance and budgeting and to problem solving will be an asset to the City Council. As a third generation Salt Laker, I care deeply about preserving the best from the past and crafting a thriving, dynamic future. I have the experience and skills to help make Salt Lake’s future as strong as her past.
I want to share the diverse views of the people of District 7 with the City Council in a respectful, articulate manner. I am eager to listen and to learn. I am not afraid to ask hard questions or make difficult decisions. I do not have my own agenda. I seek to be a calm, reasoned and effective voice for District 7.
